The nose procedures we perform at the clinic: rhinoplasty, revision, deviated septum surgery and related operations. Which procedure suits you is decided together at a consultation.
Which procedure suits me?
Which nose operation suits you depends on your complaint, your nasal structure and your goals. A short guide to give a general idea:
- A bump on the bridge: Dorsal hump reduction or rhinoplasty.
- A drooping, wide or asymmetric tip: Nasal tip rhinoplasty.
- Nasal blockage and a deviated septum: Septoplasty; if there is also a cosmetic concern, septorhinoplasty.
- A nose that has been operated on before: Revision rhinoplasty.
- A collapsed bridge: Saddle nose correction.
- A thick-skinned nose: Rhinoplasty in thick-skinned noses.
- Male patients, different ethnic backgrounds and a natural-look goal: Male rhinoplasty, ethnic rhinoplasty, Asian rhinoplasty and natural-looking rhinoplasty.
This list is only a guide. The final decision is made after an in-person examination.
Open, closed and piezo techniques
Rhinoplasty is performed with two main techniques: open rhinoplasty, which gives direct vision through a small incision on the columella, and closed rhinoplasty, in which all incisions are inside the nose. When bone work is needed, piezo rhinoplasty, which allows precise cuts with an ultrasonic device, can also be considered. Neither is better than the other; the right choice is made at the consultation according to the structure of the nose and the goal.
Our consultation process
At the consultation your expectations, health history and nasal structure are assessed together with our doctor; the nose is photographed from several angles and breathing function is examined. The recommended technique, risks and alternatives are shared with you. Needed tests are requested and what the quote includes and excludes is given in writing. For recovery and check-ups see our recovery page, for price information our cost page and for common questions our FAQ.
Overview of the procedures we perform
The nose operations we perform can be summarised under four main headings. This overview helps you find which page to start with.
Cosmetic rhinoplasty
Aims to shape the bridge, tip and bony structure to suit facial proportions. Rhinoplasty can be done with the open or closed technique; limited procedures aimed at areas such as the tip and the dorsal hump also belong to this group.
Functional operations
Aim to relieve nasal blockage and difficulty breathing. Septoplasty straightens the inside of the nose; if there is also a cosmetic concern, septorhinoplasty performs the two procedures together.
Revision and repair
Correct noses that have been operated on before or whose structure has been damaged. Revision rhinoplasty and saddle nose correction for a collapsed bridge belong to this group.
Individual approaches
Skin structure, sex and ethnic features affect the plan: rhinoplasty in thick-skinned noses, male rhinoplasty, ethnic rhinoplasty, Asian rhinoplasty and natural-looking rhinoplasty.
Breathing and appearance cannot be separated
The nose is both a facial feature and a breathing organ. When nose surgery is planned, therefore, not only the outer appearance but also the inner structure is assessed. If problems such as a deviated septum, narrow nasal valves or enlarged turbinates are present, they are handled together with the cosmetic correction; otherwise a nose that looks good but is hard to breathe through can result. At the consultation with our ENT specialist, the inside of the nose can also be assessed with an endoscope. This approach aims at a balanced result that protects both appearance and function.
Summary of the surgical process
Although each procedure has its own details, the process is generally similar: first consultation and planning, then preparation for surgery, the operation under anaesthesia, removal of the splint and stitches around the first week and long-term follow-up. Most swelling goes down in the first weeks, but the final shape of the nose often takes 12 months or longer to settle. See our recovery page for details. No operation can guarantee a result; the risks and alternatives are shared openly with you at the consultation.
